Amazon Marketing Cloud: Is It Worth It for Growing Brands?

Amazon Marketing Cloud, or AMC, used to feel like a tool only for big brands with data teams. Over the past year, Amazon has made it far easier to reach, and more advertisers can now use it from inside the ads console. That has brought a lot of questions from the growing brands we work with.
Here is what AMC does, what it can tell you and how to know if your brand is ready for it.
What is Amazon Marketing Cloud?
AMC is a secure “clean room” where advertisers can analyze their Amazon ad data at a deeper level than standard reports allow. It combines events like ad views, clicks and purchases across your campaigns, while protecting individual shopper privacy. You never see personal data, only results for groups.
You ask questions by running queries. Amazon provides ready made templates, so you do not always need to write code.
Questions AMC can answer
- How do my ad types work together? For example, do shoppers who see a Sponsored Brands ad and then a Sponsored Products ad convert more?
- How long does it take shoppers to buy? The time from first ad exposure to purchase.
- Which paths lead to new customers? The mix of ads seen before a new-to-brand purchase.
- Which audiences are worth targeting? AMC can help build custom audiences, such as shoppers who added to cart but did not buy.
Why it matters
Standard Amazon reports give each ad credit on its own. AMC helps you see the whole journey. That can change how you split budget. A campaign with a weak ACoS might be playing a big role early in the journey, and cutting it could hurt sales elsewhere.
Is your brand ready?
AMC is most useful when:
- You run Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display, not just one ad type.
- You spend enough that there is meaningful data. Small accounts may hit privacy limits that hide results.
- Your basics are strong: good listings, clean campaign structure and regular optimization.
- Someone on your team or your agency has time to review and act on the findings.
If your basics are not there yet, fix those first. Our older guide on PPC campaign structure is a good place to start.
A simple way to start
- Open AMC from the ads console, if your account has access.
- Run a template query on overlap between ad types.
- Run a template on time to conversion.
- Use what you learn to adjust budgets between ad types and lookback windows for remarketing.
The bottom line
AMC can give growing brands a much clearer view of how their Amazon ads work together. It is not a fix for weak listings or messy campaigns, but once those are solid, it can help you spend smarter.
